Event Description: Cabela’s has announced plans to celebrate the company’s annual Fishing Classic event with special deals and demonstrations on the latest and greatest fishing equipment, as well as guest appearances, seminars, family activities and more at its Reno location, April 6-19. Educational seminars and events offered during Cabela’s Fishing Classic event will be free of charge. Customers will have opportunities to learn about, and test, a wide range of fishing gear and tactics from Cabela’s staff, members of Cabela’s Pro Staff and local fishing experts on Saturday and Sunday, April 8-9. At noon on both days, a seminar titled “Home-Water Opportunities” will give customers the chance to learn from local angling experts who will talk about the best fishing spots in the area. They’ll discuss a variety of local fishing resources, and what each has to offer anglers. Cabela’s prostaffer Mike Nielsen will be in the fishing department to talk about Lake Tahoe and area lakes at noon and Donner Lake guide Marc Christophel will have his boat in front of the store to talk about Donner Lake and Boca and Stampede Reservoirs and how to set-up downriggers for Kokanee and other species at 1 p.m. At 2 p.m. on both days, experienced local anglers will cover the latest gear and techniques in a seminar titled “Fishing Tips & Tactics.” Nielsen will talk about various products and gear and go over deep water tactics for Lake Tahoe and other area lakes and Christophel will talk about Donner, Boca and Stampede and what works on those bodies of water. Cabela’s trained outfitters will also offer fly-casting lessons at 10 a.m. and then demonstrate fly-tying patterns for spring at 11 a.m. in the Fly Shop. Cabela’s footwear outfitters will give details on waders and wading boots at 11 a.m. in footwear and our clothing outfitters will talk about Cabela’s Guidewear clothing that has moisture-wicking and sun protection properties and comes in a variety of colors and styles at 1 p.m. in men’s clothing. Cabela’s Fishing Classic also will feature a reel trade-in program, April 6-9. During that time, customers may trade in lightly used reels in working condition and receive a 20-percent discount on the purchase of a new reel. All traded in reels will be donated to a local youth-fishing charity. Conservation groups taking part include the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary to talk about their safe boating class and to offer free vessel safety check-ups, free child ID photos on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. courtesy of the Northern Nevada Masons and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Auxiliary and the Nevada Outdoor School will hand out information on Leave No Trace. Gold fish races for kids will take place Saturday at 11 a.m. near the aquarium, as well.
