FIRST Nevada is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization promoting FIRST® Robotics programs and STEAM education initiatives in Nevada.
Mission of FIRST®: To inspire young people to become science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.
FIRST is an acronym: For the Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. It’s a non-profit workforce development program that challenges K-12th grade students to work as a team to design, build, and program a robot. This friendly coopertition gets students excited about careers in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math by providing them with hands-on applications of what is being taught in the classroom. FIRST inspires innovation excellence, teaching 21st century skills, and immersing participants in project-based learning and robotics competitions. This past season, FIRST had 615,000 students participating on over 72,000 teams in over 100 countries with over $80 million in scholarships available for FIRST Tech Challenge and FIRST Robotics Competition participants as well as hundreds of internship opportunities. It’s the only sport where anyone can turn pro!
